North-East region of India shares boundaries with China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
During the 1980s, the North-East region witnessed a pivotal shift in its regional ambitions. Presently composed of seven States often collectively referred to as the 'seven sisters', this region constitutes a mere 4 percent of the nation's populace but claims roughly double that share in terms of land area. A slender corridor spanning approximately 22 kilometers is the sole connection linking this region with the remainder of the country. Conversely, the North-East is flanked by borders shared with China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, consequently functioning as India's entrance to South East Asia. |
