Question:

Which two signs should be interchanged to make the given equation correct?

8 + 9 ÷ 5 x 4 - 2 = 7

Options:

= and +

- and =

÷ and -

+ and -

Correct Answer:

÷ and -

Explanation:

In the equation, 8 + 9 ÷ 5 x 4 - 2 = 7

if we interchange ÷ and - it becomes

8 + 9 - 5 x 4 ÷ 2 = 7

Using BODMAS rules,

LHS = 8 + 9 - 5 x 4 ÷ 2

= 8 + 9 - 5 x 2

= 8 + 9 - 10

= 7 =  RHS

Thus the interchange makes the given equation correct.

8 + 9 - 5 x 4 ÷ 2
8 + 9 - 5 x 4 ÷ 2
