Question:

Savita spends 20% of her monthly income on groceries, 15% of the remaining on rent and then 60% of the left over on children's education and others. If she saves ₹9,792 a month, then how much (in ₹) does she spend on rent?

Options:

3,960

4,450

4,200

4,320

Correct Answer:

4,320

Explanation:

Let total salary of Savita = 100x

Expenditure on Groceries = 20% of 100x = 20x

Remaining amount = 100x - 20x = 80x

Expenditure on Rent = 15% of 80x = 12x

Remaining amount = 80x - 12x = 68x

Expenditure on children education and others = 60% of 68x = 40.8x

Savings = 100x - 20x - 12x - 40.8x  = 27.2x

According to question ,

27.2x = 9792

x = 360

Money spend on Rent = 12 x = 12 × 360

= 4320
