Question:

The sum of three numbers is 136. If the ratio between the first number and the second number is 2 : 3 and that between the second and the third number is 5 : 3 then the first number is:

Options:

42

40

36

32

Correct Answer:

40

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (2) → 40

The sum of three numbers = 136.

If the ratio between the first number and the second number is 2 : 3 and that between the second and the third number is 5 : 3.

Now the ratio of A : B : C =

             A     :     B

                          B      :       C

           2       :      3

                           5      :       3

A : B : C = 10 : 15 : 9

According to the question,

10x + 15x + 9x = 136

34x = 136

x = 4

Now A = 10x = 10(4) = 40
