Ram and Sam are partners in a firm sharing profits and losses in 3:2 ratio. They admit Ravi as a new partner for 1/8 share in the profits. The new profit sharing ratio between Ram and Sam is 4:3. What will be the sacrificing ratio of Ram and Sam?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → 4:1
The sacrificing ratio is the ratio in which the old partners give up their shares. Each partner's sacrifice = old share − new share.
Share left for Ram and Sam = 1 − 1/8 = 7/8
Ram's new share = 7/8 × 4/7 = 4/8 = 20/40
Sam's new share = 7/8 × 3/7 = 3/8 = 15/40
Ram's sacrifice = 3/5 − 20/40 = 24/40 − 20/40 = 4/40
Sam's sacrifice = 2/5 − 15/40 = 16/40 − 15/40 = 1/40
Sacrificing ratio = 4 : 1
The ratio 4:3 is the new ratio between Ram and Sam, not their sacrifice.
