Question:

What is the difference in the volume (in cm3) of a sphere of radius 7 cm and that of a cone of radius 7 cm and height 10 cm? (use $\pi = \frac{22}{7}$)

Options:

205

704

924

1078

Correct Answer:

924

Explanation:

We know that,

The volume of a sphere = \(\frac{4}{3}\)π(Radius)3

The volume of a cone = \(\frac{1}{3}\) × π × (Radius)2 × Height

We have,

The radius of the sphere = 7 cm

The radius of the cone = 7 cm

The height of the cone = 10 cm

The difference in volume = [\(\frac{4}{3}\)× π × 73] - [\(\frac{1}{3}\)× π × 72 × 10]

= [(\(\frac{4}{3}\) × \(\frac{22}{7}\) × 343] - [\(\frac{1}{3}\)× \(\frac{22}{7}\)× 49 × 10]

= \(\frac{(7 × 22)}{3}\) (28 - 10) = (\(\frac{154}{3}\)) × 18 = 924 cm3
