Question:

Under a sale offer for an item, Mahesh was offered 24% discount on the part of the marked price that was paid in cash, but was charged 1.5% on the part of the marked price paid through a credit card. If Mahesh paid 40% of the marked price in cash and the rest through a credit card and his total final payment was ₹6,391, what was the marked price of the item?

Options:

₹7,200

₹6,900

₹7,050

₹7,000

Correct Answer:

₹7,000

Explanation:

Let the marked price = 100x

Amount with 24% discount paid in cash = \(\frac{19{25}\) ×  \(\frac{2}{5}\) × 100x

= 30.4x

The amount paid with credit card  =  101.5% of 60% of x

= 1.015 ×  \(\frac{3}{5}\) × 100x

= 60.9x

ATQ,

30.4x  + 60.9x = 6391

91.3x = 6391

x = 70

So marked price = 100x = 100 × 70 = 7000
