Question:

ΔABC is an isosceles triangle with AB = AC = 13 cm. AD is the median on BC from A such that AD = 12 cm. The length of BC is equal to :

Options:

5 cm

7.5 cm

10 cm

6 cm

Correct Answer:

10 cm

Explanation:

Given,

AB = 13

AD = 12

then BC = ?

So, according to the pythagoras theorem =

H2 = B2 + P2

Here ABD is a right angled triangle

So, according to the pythagoras theorem =

132 = BD2 + 122

BD2 = 169 - 144

BD2 = 25

BD = \(\sqrt {25}\) = 5

So the value of BC = 2 $\times$ 5 = 10
