Identify the correct sequence of events during menstrual cycle?
(A) Next cycle begins
(B) Proliferative phase
(C) Menstruation
(D) Secretory phase
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → (C), (B), (D), (A)
(C) Menstruation — first. The cycle starts with the menstrual phase (3-5 days). The endometrium and its blood vessels break down and flow out, because the ovum of the last cycle was not fertilised.
(B) Proliferative phase — second. The follicles grow and secrete estrogens. Under estrogen the endometrium grows again, so the follicular phase is also called the proliferative phase. Ovulation comes at its end, at the LH surge in the middle of the cycle.
(D) Secretory phase — third. The corpus luteum secretes progesterone, which keeps the thick endometrium ready for implantation. This luteal phase is also called the secretory phase.
(A) Next cycle begins — fourth. Without fertilisation the corpus luteum degenerates, the endometrium breaks down, and a new cycle begins with menstruation.
