Sitting Arrangement

Question:

Read the information given below carefully and answer the question that follows:

I. A, B, C, D, E and F are sitting around a circular table though not necessarily in the same order and each of them is facing to the center;
II. A is the only one sitting between D and E;
III. Third from the left of E, C is sitting;
IV. F is to the immediate right of B; &
V. D is sitting at the right of B separated by two persons.

Starting from A, what would be the clockwise order of sitting around the table?

Options:

ADCFEB

AEBFCD

ACDFBE

ADCFBE

Correct Answer:

ADCFBE

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (4) → ADCFBE

Let positions around the circular table be numbered as 1 to 6 clockwise.

Each person faces the center, so left is clockwise, and right is counterclockwise.

From (III): C is third to the left of E → C is 3 positions clockwise from E.

From (IV): F is to the immediate right of B → F is immediately counterclockwise from B.

From (V): D is to the right of B, separated by two persons → D is 3 positions counterclockwise from B.

From (II): A is the only one sitting between D and E → D-A-E or E-A-D.

Try assigning:

  • E at position 1
  • Then C is 3 clockwise from E → position 4
  • If D = 3, then A = 2, E = 1 satisfies D-A-E
  • Now D = 3, A = 2, E = 1, C = 4
  • Let B = 6 → then F = 5 (F is immediate right/counterclockwise of B)
  • Check: D = 3 is 3 counterclockwise from B = 6 ✓

Final seating positions (clockwise):

Position 1: E

Position 2: A

Position 3: D

Position 4: C

Position 5: F

Position 6: B

Clockwise order starting from A:

${A,\ D,\ C,\ F,\ B,\ E}$
