Select the correct sequence for transport of sperm in the male reproductive system.
(A) Urethra
(B) Urethral meatus
(C) Ejaculatory duct
(D) Vas deferens
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → (D), (C), (A), (B)
(D) Vas deferens — first of the four. Sperms made in the seminiferous tubules pass through the rete testis, vasa efferentia and epididymis, and then into the vas deferens, which loops over the urinary bladder.
(C) Ejaculatory duct — second. The vas deferens receives a duct from the seminal vesicle and continues as the ejaculatory duct.
(A) Urethra — third. The ejaculatory duct opens into the urethra, which runs from the urinary bladder through the penis.
(B) Urethral meatus — last. It is the external opening of the urethra, through which the sperms leave the body.
NCERT Extract:
The Male Reproductive System – “… The male sex accessory ducts include rete testis, vasa efferentia, epididymis and vas deferens (Figure 2.1b). The seminiferous tubules of the testis open into the vasa efferentia through rete testis. The vasa efferentia leave the testis and open into epididymis located along the posterior surface of each testis. The epididymis leads to vas deferens that ascends to the abdomen and loops over the urinary bladder. It receives a duct from seminal vesicle and opens into urethra as the ejaculatory duct (Figure 2.1a). These ducts store and transport the sperms from the testis to the outside through urethra. The urethra originates from the urinary bladder and extends through the penis to its external opening called urethral meatus.”
