Natural methods avoid the meeting of ovum and sperm without any device, drug or surgery.

Option (1) Lactational amenorrhea — A natural method. No ovulation during intense breast-feeding, up to about six months.

Option (2) Coitus interruptus — A natural method. In coitus interruptus the male partner withdraws his penis from the vagina just before ejaculation, so that insemination is avoided. No device or drug is used.

Option (3) Intra Uterine Devices (IUD) — Not a natural method. An IUD is a device placed in the uterus by a doctor.

Option (4) Periodic Abstinence — A natural method. In periodic abstinence the couple avoids coitus from day 10 to 17 of the menstrual cycle, when ovulation could be expected. It uses no device or drug.
