A, B and C are partners sharing profits in the ratio 2:2:1. B retires from the firm. After making all adjustments relating to revaluation, goodwill and accumulated profit etc., the capital account of A, B and C showed a credit balance of Rs. 60,000; Rs. 70,000; and Rs. 50,000 respectively. It was decided that the amount payable to B will be brought by A and C in such a way as to make their capitals proportionate to their profit sharing ratio. Calculate the amount to be brought in by A and C.
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → Rs. 60,000 by A and Rs. 10,000 by C
A and C bring in the Rs. 70,000 payable to B, and the total capital of the new firm is then divided between them in their new ratio 2 : 1. Each brings in the gap between his new capital and his present balance.
Total capital = Rs. 60,000 + Rs. 50,000 + Rs. 70,000 = Rs. 1,80,000
A's new capital = Rs. 1,80,000 × 2/3 = Rs. 1,20,000
C's new capital = Rs. 1,80,000 × 1/3 = Rs. 60,000
A brings in = Rs. 1,20,000 − Rs. 60,000 = Rs. 60,000
C brings in = Rs. 60,000 − Rs. 50,000 = Rs. 10,000
