Hema and Nema are partners in a firm sharing profits in the ratio of 3:2. Their capitals were Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively. They admitted Sama on Jan. 1, 2025 as a new partner for 1/4 share in the future profits. Sama brought Rs. 60,000 as his capital. Calculate the value of goodwill of the firm.
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → Rs. 50,000
When the new partner’s capital is given but goodwill is not, goodwill is hidden: the whole firm’s capital is worked out from the new partner’s capital and his share, and the shortfall of actual capitals is the goodwill.
Total capital of the new firm = Rs. 60,000 × 4/1 = Rs. 2,40,000
Actual capitals = Rs. 80,000 + Rs. 50,000 + Rs. 60,000 = Rs. 1,90,000
Goodwill of the firm = Rs. 2,40,000 − Rs. 1,90,000 = Rs. 50,000
