Babur Nama was written by Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire.  Babur’s memoirs were translated from Turkish into Persian Babur Nama. He ruled from 1526 to 1530.

An interesting book giving us a glimpse into the domestic world of the Mughals is the Humayun Nama written by Gulbadan Begum. Gulbadan was the daughter of Babur, Humayun’s sister and Akbar’s aunt. Gulbadan could write fluently in Turkish and Persian.

Amir Khusrau wrote Akbar Nama. He started working on Akbar Nama in 1589. The Akbar Nama is divided into three books of which the first two are chronicles.

Jahangir Nama, an autobiography was written by Emperor Jahangir and provides insights into his reign. It was completed in the early 17th century.

Alamgir Nama is a biography of Emperor Aurangzeb written by Mirza Muhammad Khazim, and it was completed in the late 17th century (1668). It contains the history of the first ten years of Aurangzeb's reign.
