(B) Salivary glands of mosquito — first. The infectious form, the sporozoite, is kept in the salivary glands of the female Anopheles mosquito. When the mosquito bites a human, the sporozoites enter the body.
(C) Liver of man — second. The sporozoites travel to the liver. The parasites first multiply within the liver cells.
(D) Blood of man — third. From the liver the parasites attack the red blood cells and multiply there. The RBCs burst and release haemozoin, which causes the chill and high fever. Some parasites in the blood form the sexual stages (gametocytes).
(A) Gut of mosquito — last. When a female Anopheles bites an infected person, the gametocytes go with the blood into the mosquito. Fertilisation and further development take place in the mosquito’s gut. The sporozoites formed there move to the salivary glands, and the cycle begins again.
