Question:

A policeman saw a thief from a distance of 450 m. When the policeman started chasing him, the thief also started running. The ratio of speeds of the thief to the policeman is 7 : 8. After running how much distance (in km) can the policeman catch the thief ?

Options:

3.75

3.4

3.6

3.15

Correct Answer:

3.6

Explanation:

Distance between policeman and thief = 450 m

Ratio of speed of thief to policeman = 7:8

Let speed of Thief = 7 & speed of policeman = 8

Relative speed = 8-7 = 1 m/sec

Time taken by policeman to caught the thief = \(\frac{450}{1}\) = 450 sec

Distance traveled by Policeman = 450 × 8 = 3600 m

= 3.6 km      (1km=1000m)
