Which of the following is a natural method of birth control?

The correct answer is Option (2) → Lactational amenorrhea

Natural methods of birth control work by avoiding the meeting of ovum and sperms, with no device or medicine. Examples are periodic abstinence, withdrawal and lactational amenorrhea.

Option (1) Condoms — Incorrect. A condom is a barrier method: a thin rubber cover that stops the semen from entering the female tract.

Option (2) Lactational amenorrhea — Correct. Lactational amenorrhea means absence of menstruation while the mother breast-feeds. During this time ovulation does not take place, so conception is unlikely. It is effective only up to about six months after the birth of the baby.

Option (3) IUD — Incorrect. An intra uterine device is a device placed in the uterus by a doctor, such as CuT or Lippes loop.

Option (4) Diaphragms — Incorrect. Diaphragms are barriers made of rubber, placed over the cervix by the woman.
