Question:

A bus travels at 100km/h for the first 1/2 hour. Later it travels at 80km/h. Find the time taken by the bus to travel 290 km.

Options:

4 hours

3.5 hours

3 hours

2.5 hours

Correct Answer:

3.5 hours

Explanation:

Distance= speed × time

Distance traveled in first 1/2 hours

= 100 × \(\frac{1}{2}\) = 50 km

Remaining distance= 290 - 50 = 240 km

Time taken to travel remaining distance at 80 km/h

= \(\frac{240}{80}\)

= 3 hours

Total time to travel 290 km = ( \(\frac{1}{2}\)  + 3 )hours

= 3.5 hours

Hence, Total time taken to travel 290 km is 3.5 hours.
