Interestingly, wars and tragedies have spurred AIR to expand its activities. The 1962 war with China prompted the launching of a ‘talks’ unit to put out a daily programme. In August 1971, with the Bangladesh crises looming, the News Service Division introduced news on the hour, from 6 O’ clock in the morning to midnight.
