Medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) is the intentional ending of a pregnancy before full term. It is also called induced abortion.
Option (1) Upto 24 weeks of pregnancy — Incorrect. The MTP (Amendment) Act, 2017 allows a pregnancy of 12 to 24 weeks to be ended only if two registered doctors agree. This period is the second trimester, where abortion carries much more risk.
Option (2) Upto 12 weeks of pregnancy — Correct. The first 12 weeks make up the first trimester. MTP is safest in this period.
Option (3) Upto 36 weeks of pregnancy — Incorrect. At 36 weeks the pregnancy is close to full term (about 9 months). This is far beyond the safe or legal limit for MTP.
