2000: Chhattisgarh
On the basis of a separate regional culture or complaints of regional imbalance in development, the states of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand, were created in the year 2000. Jharkhand was carved out of the tribal region of Bihar in 2000. The proponents of a separate state argued that the region's socio-economic development was lagging behind due to neglect from the central government.
