Time, Speed and Distance

Question:

There are 2 trains P and Q moving in same direction. They are of equal length and cross a stationary pole in 5 seconds and 6 seconds respectively. In how much time would they cross each other?

Options:

30 seconds

11 Seconds

60 seconds

45 Seconds

Correct Answer:

60 seconds

Explanation:

Speed  = \(\frac{Distance }{ Time}\)

Let the length of train be x

Speed of train P = \(\frac{x }{5}\)

Speed of train Q = \(\frac{x }{6}\)

Now, according to the question:

\(\frac{x }{5}\) - \(\frac{x }{6}\) = \(\frac{2x }{ Time}\)

\(\frac{x }{30}\) = \(\frac{2x }{ Time}\)

Time = 60 seconds
