Question:

In an examination, the average marks of the entire class was 70. If average marks scored by 10% of the students was 95 and average marks scored by other 20% of the students was 20, then what was the average marks of the remaining students of the class? (correct to one decimal place)

Options:

78.7%

80.2%

80.7%

82.5%

Correct Answer:

80.7%

Explanation:

Let Total number of students in a class =  100

Sum of marks of whole class = 100 × 70 = 7000

Sum of marks of 10% of students = \(\frac{10}{100}\)× 100 × 95 = 950

Sum of marks of 20% of students = \(\frac{20}{100}\)× 100 × 20 = 400

Remaining = 100 - ( 30 ) = 70

Let average of remaining 70 students = x

According to question ,

950 + 400 + 70x = 7000

70x = 7000 - 1350

70x = 5650

x = \(\frac{5650}{70}\) = 80.71

So, average marks of the remaining students of the class = 80.71%
