1)  3 × 2 < 4 ÷ 16 > 2 + 4

2)  5 > 8 + 4 = 10 < 4 × 8

3)  3 × 4 > 2 – 9 + 3 < 3

4)  5 × 3 < 3 ÷ 8 + 4 + 1

Options:

only 1 is true

only 2 is true

Both 2 and 4 is true

Both 2 and 3 is true

Correct Answer:

Both 2 and 4 is true

Explanation:

from (1)

3 × 2 < 4 ÷ 16 > 2 + 4

⇒ 3 + 2 – 4 > 16 × 2  ÷ 4

⇒ 5 – 4 > \(\frac{16 × 2}{4}\) ⇒ 1 > 8 (not possible)

from (2)

5 > 8 + 4 = 10 < 4 × 8

⇒ 5 × 8 ÷ 4 < 10 – 4 + 8

⇒ 5 × 2 < 18 – 4

⇒ 10  <  14

from (3)

3 × 4 > 2 – 9 + 3 < 3

⇒ 3 + 4 × 2 = 9 ÷ 3 – 3

⇒ 3 + 8  =  3 – 3

⇒ 11  =  0       (not possible)

from (4)

5 × 3 < 3 ÷ 8 + 4 + 1

⇒ 5 + 3 – 3 > 8 ÷ 4 ÷ 1

⇒ 8 – 3 > 2 ÷ 1

⇒ 5  >  2

Both (2) and (4) are correct.
