A train crosses a stationary pole in 3 minutes. It crosses a 600 meter long platform in 5 minutes. What are the length and the speed of the train?

Options:

3600 m, 18 km/h

900 m, 18 km/h

900 m, 15 km/h

1200 m, 15 km/h

Correct Answer:

900 m, 18 km/h

Explanation:

Let length of train = L meter

Train cross a pole in 3 minutes i.e. train crosses its length in 3 minutes .

And train crosses 600 m bridge in 5 minutes , that means train cover 600 m in 2 minutes

2 minutes = 120 seconds

Speed  = \(\frac{DIstance}{Time}\)

Speed  of train = \(\frac{600}{120}\) = 5 m/sec

5 m/sec = 5 × \(\frac{18}{5}\)  = 18 km/h

Distance traveled by train in 3 minutes = 5 × 180 = 900 m

So , length of train is 900 m and speed of train is 18 km/h .
