The Indus River flows in India only through:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → Jammu and Kashmir
The Indus rises in Tibet near Lake Mansarovar, enters India in the Ladakh region and flows north-west past Leh, between the Ladakh and Zaskar ranges, before it leaves Indian territory and flows on through Pakistan to the Arabian Sea. Of the four options, only Jammu and Kashmir takes in the area of its Indian course (see the Note); Allahabad, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan lie far from it.
Note: Since 31 October 2019, the Indian stretch of the Indus lies in the Union Territory of Ladakh, which until then was part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Ladakh is not among the options, so Option (3), the former state the river flowed through, is the best of the four.
