Question:

Match List – I with List – II.

List - I

List - II

 (A) Bacteriophage lambda

 (I) 231 gene

 (B) Y-chromosome of human

 (II) 48502 bp

 (C) Escherichia coli DNA

 (III) $3.3 \times 10^9$ bp

 (D) Haploid content of human DNA

 (IV) $4.6 \times 10^6$ bp

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Options:

(A)-(III), (B)-(IV), (C)-(II), (D)-(I)

(A)-(II), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(III)

(A)-(II), (B)-(III), (C)-(I), (D)-(IV)

(A)-(IV), (B)-(I), (C)-(III), (D)-(II)

Correct Answer:

(A)-(II), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(III)

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (2) → (A)-(II), (B)-(I), (C)-(IV), (D)-(III)

List - I

List - II

 (A) Bacteriophage lambda

(II) 48502 bp

 (B) Y-chromosome of human

(I) 231 gene

 (C) Escherichia coli DNA

(IV) $4.6 \times 10^6$ bp

 (D) Haploid content of human DNA

(III) $3.3 \times 10^9$ bp

DNA is a long polymer of deoxyribonucleotides. The length of DNA is usually defined as number of nucleotides (or a pair of nucleotide referred to as base pairs) present in it. This also is the characteristic of an organism. For example, a bacteriophage known as φ ×174 has 5386 nucleotides, Bacteriophage lambda has 48502 base pairs (bp), Escherichia coli has 4.6 × 106 bp, and haploid content of human DNA is 3.3 × 109 bp.

The human genome contains 3164.7 million bp. Chromosome 1 has most genes (2968), and the Y has the fewest (231).
