Question:

The numbers  9, 13, 15, 20, 22, 24, 26, 29 and N are arranged in ascending order. The mean of these numbers is equal to the median of the numbers. The value of N is?

Options:

40

56

66

70

Correct Answer:

40

Explanation:

The correct answer of the question is in the option: (1)

Ascending order = 9, 13, 15, 20, 22, 24, 26, 29 and N

Total no. = 9 i.e. odd

Median in case of odd no. = \(\frac{n+1}{2}\)th term = i.e. 5th term

Median = 22

and it is given that , Median = Mean

Mean =  \(\frac{sum\;of \;all \;the \;digits }{total \; no. \;of \;digits}\)

 22    = \(\frac{9+13+15+20+22+24+26+29+N}{9}\)

 22    = \(\frac{158+N}{9}\)

 198 = 158 + N

  N   = 198 - 158 = 40
