Amniocentesis is a medical procedure used during pregnancy to diagnose certain genetic abnormalities or fetal infections, among other conditions. A statutory ban on using amniocentesis is specifically for sex determination in order to legally address the growing issue of female foeticide. In some countries, particularly where there's a severe problem of female foeticide or gender-based abortions, legislation has been enacted to prohibit using prenatal diagnostic techniques, including amniocentesis, solely for determining the sex of the fetus. There is a significant impact of improved health facilities, better living conditions, and a decline in mortality rates (such as death rate, maternal mortality rate, and infant mortality rate) on the rapid growth of the world population, including India. A rapid decline in death rate, maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) as well as an increase in number of people in reproducible age are probable reasons of population growth. Sterilization provides a permanent and sure birth control. Sterilization are generally advised for the male/female partner as a terminal method to prevent any more pregnancies. Surgical intervention blocks gamete transport and thereby prevent conception. Sterilisation procedure in the male is called ‘vasectomy’ and that in the female, ‘tubectomy’. In vasectomy, a small part of the vas deferens is removed or tied up through a small incision on the scrotum . So in this surgical intervention sperms are produced but undergo phagocytosis in epididymis .This is why vasectomy is considered a form of permanent contraception, as it prevents sperm from being present in the ejaculate. |
