Two bodies of masses 1 kg and 5 kg are dropped gently from the top of a tower. At a point 20 cm from the ground, both the bodies will have the same : |
Momentum Kinetic Energy Velocity Total Energy |
Velocity |
(1) Momentum = mass x velocity. As masses are different, so will be the momenta. (2) Kinetic Energy = \(\frac{1}{2}\) x mass x velocity2. As masses are different, so will be the kinetic energies. (3) Let height of the tower be H. At time t = 0, the bodies are dropped. Their velocity after time time t = t is given as : \(v = u + at\) as u = 0 and a = g \(v = gt\) We can see that velocity does NOT depend upon the mass of the body dropped. Thus, the velocities of both the bodies will be same. (4) Total energy = Kinetic energy + Potential energy \(E = \frac{1}{2} m v^2 + mgH\) As masses are different, so will be the kinetic energies and the potential energies. Thus, the total energies will be different too. |
