Question:

An article costs Rs.4,000 to a shopkeeper, who marks its price at Rs. 8,400. The shopkeeper sells it to a customer at a discount of 25%. The customer gets a further discount of 15% on the discounted price if the customer redeems a coupon issued by the store previously. What is the profit percentage (to the nearest integer ) earned by the shopkeeper in this transaction ?

Options:

34%

51%

42%

36%

Correct Answer:

34%

Explanation:

CP= 4,000

MP = 8400

Successive discount = X + y - \(\frac{x × y}{100}\)

Successive discount of 25% and 15%=  25 + 15 - \(\frac{25 × 15}{100}\) = 36.25%

Selling price = (100 - 36.25)% of 8400= 5355

Profit percentage = \(\frac{(5355-4000) × 100}{4000}\) = 34%(approx)
