Question:

The value of x and y, if \(\begin{bmatrix}2x+y & 6\\-1 & 3x+2y\end{bmatrix}=\begin{bmatrix}4 & 6\\-1 & 7\end{bmatrix}\) are:

Options:

x = 2, y = 1

x = 2, y = 0

x = 1, y = 2

x = 0, y = 4

Correct Answer:

x = 1, y = 2

Explanation:

2x + y = 4  ..(1)

3x + 2y = 7  ..(2)

Solving for x and y, multiply first equation by 2 and subtract.

4x - 3x + 2y - 2y = 8 - 7

 x = 1 (Put in any equation)

2(1) + y = 4 ⇒ y = 2
