Aman, Mann and Sonia are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 3:2:1. Mann retires and his share is taken over by remaining partners in the ratio of 2:1 respectively. What will be the New Profit Sharing ratio?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → 13:5
When the retiring partner's share is taken over in a given ratio, each continuing partner's new share = old share + share taken from the retiring partner.
Old shares: Aman 3/6, Mann 2/6, Sonia 1/6
Aman takes 2/6 × 2/3 = 4/18
Sonia takes 2/6 × 1/3 = 2/18
Aman's new share = 3/6 + 4/18 = 9/18 + 4/18 = 13/18
Sonia's new share = 1/6 + 2/18 = 3/18 + 2/18 = 5/18
New ratio of Aman and Sonia = 13 : 5
5:13 is the same pair the wrong way round. The order follows the question: Aman first, then Sonia.
