Question:

In the election, 8% of the voters did not cast their votes. Two candidates contested the election in which the winning cadidate got 48% of the total votes and won election by 1100 votes. Find the total number of voters in the election, given that all the votes cast were valid?

Options:

25500

26500

27500

28500

Correct Answer:

27500

Explanation:

Let the total number of voters enrolled on the voter's list = 100

8 % did not vote

 Number of voters left = 100x - 8x = 92x

 48% winning votes  = 48x

 Losser get = 100x - (48x + 8x) = 44x

According to question

 48x - 44x = 1100

 4x = 1100

 x = 275

The total number of votes = 100 × 275 = 27500
