Time, Speed and Distance

Question:

A train covers the distance between two stations X and Y in 6 hours. If the speed of the train is reduced by 13 km/h, then it travels the same distance in 9 hours. Find the distance between the two stations.

Options:

220 km

234 km

185 km

215 km

Correct Answer:

234 km

Explanation:

Let the initial speed = S

Distance = Speed × Time

According to the question,

As distance is same in both cases

 S × 6 = (S - 13) × 9

 6S = 9S - 117

 3S = 117

S = 39 km/h

Distance = 39 × 6 = 234 km.

So , The distance between the two stations is 234 km.
