| Read the passage and answer the following questions: Plants rely on sunlight for photosynthesis, the process by which they produce food. As a result, light plays a vital role for autotrophs and other living organisms. In forest environments, where tall trees cast shadows, small plants have adapted to optimize photosynthesis even under low light conditions. Additionally, many plants require sunlight to fulfill their photoperiodic requirement for flowering. Light is also significant for animals, as they use variations in light intensity and duration throughout the day and seasons (photoperiod) as cues for regulating their foraging, reproductive, and migratory behaviors. The availability of light on land is closely connected to temperature since both are dependent on the sun as their source. |
