Question:

The index number of the year 2021, taking 2016 as base year for the following data was found to be 130.

Commodities A B C D E F
prices $P_0$ (in Rs.) in 2016 60 40 50 x 70 100
prices $P_1$ (in Rs.) n 2021 65 50 60 90 y 120

If $∑P_0=380,$ then the missing entries in the data are :

Options:

$x=60, y=109 $

$x=80, y = 109 $

$x=109, y=60$

$x=70, y = 190 $

Correct Answer:

$x=60, y=109 $

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (1) → $x=60, y=109$

Index number = $\frac{∑P_1}{∑P_0}×100$

$⇒130=\frac{∑P_1}{380}×100$

$⇒∑P_1=494,∑P_0=380$

from the given data,

$60+40+50+x+70+100=380$

$x=380-320=60$

and,

$65+50+60+90+y+120=494$

$⇒y=494-385=109$
