Two things change from figure to figure:
The bracket repeats in a cycle of three: open at the top, open at the bottom, open on the left. Figures 1 and 4 have it at the top edge, figures 2 and 5 at the bottom edge, figures 3 and 6 on the right edge; each time a shape comes back, it has moved further along its edge (right along the top and bottom, down the right side).
The cross goes round the bracket anticlockwise, two figures on each side after the first: right, above, above, left, left, so figure 6 has it below.
