Arjun is twice as old as Shreya. Five years ago, his age was three times Shreya's age. Find the sum of their present ages:

and five years ago

x−5=3(y−5)

x−5=3y−15

x−3y+10=0−−−(2)

2y−3y+10=0

y=10

and x=20

∴ age of Arjun is 20 and age of Shreya is 10

therefore sum of the ages = 20 + 10 = 30 years
