Question:

The price of gold is directly proportional to the square of its weight. It being sold after breaking in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3 therefore earned a loss of ₹440. The price of gold before breaking is:

Options:

900

480

650

720

Correct Answer:

720

Explanation:

Price of gold = ( weight of gold)2

                I   :   II   :   III  :  Actual

weight ⇒  1   :   2    :    3   :     6

Price   ⇒  12 :   22  :   32   :     62

          ⇒  1  :   4    :    9    :     36

Now,

Actual Price = 36

Price after break = (9 + 4 + 1) = 14

Loss  = 36 - 14 = 22R

⇒ 22R = 440 (given)

⇒  1R  =  20

Hence,

Actual Price = 36 × 20 = 720/-
