Question:

A train takes 3 hours to travel from place A to B at the speed of 60 km/h. The same train takes 2 hours to travel from B to C at 50% increased speed. What is the average speed of the train from place A to C?

Options:

60 km/h

90 km/h

80 km/h

72 km/h

Correct Answer:

72 km/h

Explanation:

From A to B ,

Distance = Speed × Time

= 60 × 3 = 180  km

From B to C ,

Speed = 60 + 50% of 60 = 90 km/h

Distance = Speed × Time

= 90 × 2 = 180  km

Total distance from A to C = 180 + 180 = 360 km

Average speed = \(\frac{360 }{5 }\) = 72 km/h
