Dhoni and Kohli share profits in the ratio of 3:2. Gill was admitted as a partner for 1/5 share. New profit sharing ratio, if Gill acquires 3/20 from Dhoni and 1/20 from Kohli, would be:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → 9 : 7 : 4
Each old partner’s new share is his old share less the share he gives to the new partner. Put all shares over a common denominator (20) to compare them.
Dhoni: old 3/5 = 12/20; new = 12/20 − 3/20 = 9/20
Kohli: old 2/5 = 8/20; new = 8/20 − 1/20 = 7/20
Gill: 3/20 + 1/20 = 4/20 (that is, 1/5)
New ratio = 9 : 7 : 4
The book asks the same with partners X, Y and Z; its answer, (a) 9 : 7 : 4, is the same.
