In the Block diagram of a generalised communication system, the elements are given below. The correct order of elements should be:
(A) Transmitter
(B) Information Source
(C) User of Information
(D) Channel
(E) Receiver
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → (B), (A), (D), (E), (C)
A communication system carries a message from where it is produced to where it is used. Following the path of the message:
(B) Information Source — produces the message (speech, picture, data); it is where the chain begins.
(A) Transmitter — converts the message into a signal suitable for sending (modulation) and sends it out.
(D) Channel — the medium (wire, cable, optical fibre or free space) that carries the signal from the transmitter to the receiver.
(E) Receiver — picks up the signal and recovers the original message from it.
(C) User of Information — the person or device for whom the message is meant; the chain ends here.
The order is B, A, D, E, C.

NCERT (Pre-rationalised edition, 2022-23):
Elements of a Communication System – “… In a communication system, the transmitter is located at one place, the receiver is located at some other place (far or near) separate from the transmitter and the channel is the physical medium that connects them.”
Elements of a Communication System – “… The purpose of the transmitter is to convert the message signal produced by the source of information into a form suitable for transmission through the channel.”
Elements of a Communication System – “… The receiver has the task of operating on the received signal. It reconstructs a recognisable form of the original message signal for delivering it to the user of information.”
