More about Rajya Sabha:

The Rajya Sabha, often referred to as the Council of States or Upper House, is one of the two houses of the Parliament of India, with the other being the Lok Sabha or the House of the People.
The Rajya Sabha is a permanent body and is not subject to dissolution like the Lok Sabha. Its members are not directly elected by the people of India but are elected by the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the Single Transferable Vote (STV). Additionally, the President of India can nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha who have special knowledge or practical experience in various fields such as literature, science, art, and social service.
As per Article 80 of the Constitution of India, the maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha can be 250 members. However, currently, it has a lesser strength due to vacancies.
Members of the Rajya Sabha serve a term of six years, and one-third of its members retire every two years. This rotation system ensures continuity in the functioning of the house.
The Rajya Sabha plays a crucial role in the legislative process in India. It shares legislative powers with the Lok Sabha, including the power to make laws on matters specified in the Union List and Concurrent List. Additionally, the Rajya Sabha has special powers such as initiating and passing resolutions for the removal of the President of India and initiating and participating in the impeachment of judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
