Arrange the given components in the order for a receiver in communication :
(A) Amplifier
(B) Detector
(C) IF Stage
(D) receiving Antenna
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → (D) \( \rightarrow \) (A) \( \rightarrow \) (C) \( \rightarrow \) (B)
A receiver has to pick up the weak modulated signal, strengthen it, and then recover the message from it, so the blocks follow the path of the signal.
(D) receiving Antenna: picks up the modulated signal from the channel, so it comes first.
(A) Amplifier: the received signal is very weak and is amplified first.
(C) IF Stage: the carrier frequency is changed to a lower, fixed intermediate frequency for easier processing.
(B) Detector: separates the message signal from the carrier (demodulation); its output then goes to a further amplifier and the output device.
So the order is (D) \( \rightarrow \) (A) \( \rightarrow \) (C) \( \rightarrow \) (B).

NCERT (Pre-rationalised edition, 2022-23):
Detection of Amplitude Modulated Wave – “The transmitted message gets attenuated in propagating through the channel. The receiving antenna is therefore to be followed by an amplifier and a detector. In addition, to facilitate further processing, the carrier frequency is usually changed to a lower frequency by what is called an intermediate frequency (IF) stage preceding the detection. The detected signal may not be strong enough to be made use of and hence is required to be amplified. A block diagram of a typical receiver is shown in Fig. 15.12”
