Krishnadeva Raya's rule was characterized by expansion and consolidation on the land between the rivers Tungabhadra and Krishna. What was this land popularly known as?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → Raichur Doab
The fertile tract lying between the Krishna and the Tungabhadra is the Raichur Doab. Krishnadeva Raya of Vijayanagara seized it in 1512 and finally secured it after the battle of Raichur in 1520 against the Sultan of Bijapur.
The doab was fought over for centuries by the Vijayanagara rulers and the Bahmani Sultans because of its farmland, its forts and its diamond mines. The other options name tracts far to the north, in the Punjab and the Ganga plains.
