Rahul, Anuj and Sharjeel are partners in a firm sharing profits in the ratio of 8:5:3. It is felt that Rahul will no longer be able to actively participate in affairs of the firm. Hence, with effect from April 1, 2025, they decided that, in future they will share the profits in the ratio of 5 : 6 : 5. In this case, what will be the share of Rahul's loss in profits?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → 3/16
When partners change their profit sharing ratio, some lose part of their share and others gain it. A partner’s loss (sacrifice) = old share − new share.
Rahul’s old share = 8/16 (ratio 8:5:3, total 16)
Rahul’s new share = 5/16 (ratio 5:6:5, total 16)
Rahul’s loss = 8/16 − 5/16 = 3/16
Check: Anuj gains 6/16 − 5/16 = 1/16 and Sharjeel gains 5/16 − 3/16 = 2/16; together 3/16, which is Rahul’s loss.
