What do you understand by the term “Nishada”?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → Hunting community
A nishada was a member of a hunting community of the forest. The best-known nishada is Ekalavya of the Mahabharata. When Drona, the Brahmana teacher of the Kuru princes, refused to take him as a pupil, Ekalavya made a clay image of Drona, practised archery before it on his own, and became a great archer. The story shows how texts tried to keep people in their ‘proper’ social roles.
