Ankita and Anjali share profits in the ratio of 3:2. Anshu is admitted into partnership for 1/4 share. The new profit sharing ratio is 9:6:5. What will be the sacrificing ratio of Ankita and Anjali?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → 3:2
The sacrifice of each old partner = his old share − his new share.
New ratio 9 : 6 : 5 has a total of 20: Ankita = 9/20, Anjali = 6/20, Anshu = 5/20 (the 1/4 share he was admitted for)
Old shares: Ankita = 3/5 = 12/20, Anjali = 2/5 = 8/20
Ankita’s sacrifice = 12/20 − 9/20 = 3/20
Anjali’s sacrifice = 8/20 − 6/20 = 2/20
Sacrificing ratio = 3 : 2
The sacrificing ratio comes out equal to the old ratio here because the two old partners keep their old proportion between themselves (9 : 6 = 3 : 2) after Anshu joins.
